Waco is seeing some huge growth.
New restaurants are moving into Waco, the music scene is bustling and there are new houses and apartments going up all over downtown. All of these things are good for our striving Waco economy, but with that success, however, comes failure. Places that were once beloved close and old town favorites become a thing of the past, while the new begins to infringe upon our experiences in our day-to-day lives.
I'm digging the wave of food trucks rolling through Waco these days.
Another couple of them will be appearing soon (like right now at Diadeloso, I hear). Club Sandwich owner Youngdae Moon is putting the final pieces in place for his Asian food done American style food truck.
After sending the 254Eats Bracket Challenge ballots to Florida to have them certified by experts, we're comfortable declaring a winner.
No, just kidding. But we do have a winner. Baris tallied 18,762 votes in the final to edge George's by 17 percent. That completed Baris's impressive run of wins against Leal's, Shorty's, Kitok's and Captain Billy Whizzbang's — all worthy opponents — to reach the final.
A brand new Dave’s Burger Barn location is set to open between Vitek’s and Cupps at 1707 N I-35 near the intersection of 17th Street and the interstate according to Dave's owner Tim Quiroz.
The new location will serve alcohol, and have a variety of food challenges similar to Dave’s most famous challenge: the “Zipper Ripper.”
Torchy's is here with a bang!
As I'm writing this, there's still about half an hour to get past Torchy's for a free opening-day breakfast taco. I claimed mine at 8:30 this morning — a chorizo, egg and cheese. Hit the spot.
The opportunity to fill your dance card with quality, small-venue shows rolls around later this month in Waco.
A five-day run will offer shows by David Ramirez, Green River Ordinance, Jillian Edwards Chapman, Seryn, Jarrod Dickenson and David Ford (that's a chronological list, btw).
Polls will close Friday, April 4, at 11:59pm. You may vote once per hour until the polls close.
Austin’s is back.
Junction 84 business owner Shawn Seay has bought Metro, the bar at 719 Austin Avenue, and has renamed the business Austin’s, after his business partner’s old bar that resided at the same location. Austin’s is currently open every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m,, but Seay plans to have a full kitchen functioning by the end of April so that Austin’s can serve dinner and even breakfast.
I told you earlier this week that Longhorn Steakhouse was open on Franklin Avenue and I also told you I had penciled in dining there and specifically taking down their rib eye.
Done and done as Cory and I met there for lunch on Tuesday.
