One More Bite

The WacoFork Blog

An interesting article currently on wacotrib.com makes it seem as if Austin Avenue will be Waco's version of Yawkey Way or Wrigleyville. Plans to block off Austin Ave from South Fifth to South Eighth streets were give enthusiastic nods of approval by all concerned during a meeting on Tuesday.

It's Tuesday Trivia time again, WacoFork friends.

[ We're proud to introduce new WacoFork writer Roxanne Portillo, who will be giving us the scoop on some places that Chad doesn't get to all that often, like Real Deal Soul Food. Enjoy. ]

Any place that serves Kool-Aid is definitely on my good side.

The wait is finally over. The restaurant formally known as Rusty Taco makes its debut as Rowdy Taco today at 10am. I got a sneak preview last night, and I have to say it doesn't disappoint.

We were given a heads up on this via our facebook page and want to pass it along. It's a good chance to help out Communities in Schools by simply dining out.

Tomorrow, Chili's will donate 15 percent of the total sale price to Communities in Schools for patrons who mention the promotion to their server. It's all day, from 10:45 a.m. to 9 p.m., so make plans now.

Tuesday Trivia is back for the summer. Each Tuesday we will be rolling out a trivia question which will more than likely have something to do with new music or video released on that day. It's real easy, the first person to email the correct answer to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. wins. Today's prize is $10 to Captain Billy Whizzbang's.

We wish we could keep intern Dustin Payne around forever as he did an excellent job of augmenting our content this spring. Alas, he graduated. But he left us with this video featuring local servers telling us about their favorite items at their respective restaurants.

UPDATE: I went by at 10:45 today (Tuesday) and owner Nick Colaku said they are open for business. They actually opened up on a very soft basis Monday afternoon. They don't have a sign up right now, but it's the location with the yellow awning. Remember, it's order-at-the-counter at lunch and table service at dinner.

I was driving to China Spring on Saturday to cover a high school softball playoff game for the Trib when I noticed a bright red truck and a barbecue pit just off to the left of China Spring Highway (aka, N. 19th Street).

I love when this happens, because I know I have something to check on for the next week. However, I hate it when I ask the proprietor how long they've been there and it turns out I probably should have noticed it long ago. In this case, Bonesuckerz has been serving barbecue in this spot since July.

We've been wondering what was taking Rusty Taco so long to open and now we know. There's not going to be a Rusty Taco.

Instead, we will very soon be able to dine at Rowdy Taco. Same location, but different concept and branding. I spoke with general manager Cody Brown today and he gave me to new scoop.
