An interesting article currently on wacotrib.com makes it seem as if Austin Avenue will be Waco's version of Yawkey Way or Wrigleyville. Plans to block off Austin Ave from South Fifth to South Eighth streets were give enthusiastic nods of approval by all concerned during a meeting on Tuesday.

For one thing, Austin Avenue doesn't exactly fall in the shadow of the new football stadium. But I'm more hopeful than skeptical, especially since I see an opportunity for us to have a good time on an upcoming summer evening.
Here's what I'm thinking: let's meet up one night in late June (possibly Friday, June 27, or Saturday, June 28) and have a drink or a bite to eat. We could start at Muddle or Dichotomy or Portofino or just meet at one of the various food trucks. Once everyone has had a chance to eat and/or drink and mingle a bit, we'll walk as a group over to the vicinity of McLane Stadium, just to see what the walk is like, how long it takes, etc. Maybe we'll even include a brief mock-football-game broadcast when we're near the stadium. Then we'll walk back and chill out for the evening at Muddle or Dichotomy or Portofino or wherever.
Who thinks this is a good idea? I certainly do. I'm actually willing to do it by myself and report on it. But a group and a video would be more fun, right? I'm also looking for ideas here. So fire away. Would the Baylor Downtown Development Corp or Baylor athletics like to jump on board in any way? My ears are open and my email is This email address is being protected from spambots.
