I was driving to China Spring on Saturday to cover a high school softball playoff game for the Trib when I noticed a bright red truck and a barbecue pit just off to the left of China Spring Highway (aka, N. 19th Street).
I love when this happens, because I know I have something to check on for the next week. However, I hate it when I ask the proprietor how long they've been there and it turns out I probably should have noticed it long ago. In this case, Bonesuckerz has been serving barbecue in this spot since July.
Well, better late than never, I guess.
The interesting thing is this is really a barbecue truck. It just happens to be parked next to its dining room, which used to be a coffee shop called My Brewed Awakening. Bonesuckerz also serves food at Brazos Nights and other events in town. They told me they will be at the Wade Bowen concert on Sunday at Indian Springs Park. I responded "There's a Wade Bowen concert Sunday at Indian Springs Park?"
I checked on Bonesuckerz early on Wednesday, too early to actually eat barbecue, so I can't give a summation of the meat or sides. What I can do is offer an atta boy or atta girl to anyone who gives it a shot and writes a review.
One more bite: My roommate, Joben David, and I went to Uncle Dan's on Wednesday night. They have all-you-can-eat barbecue AND sides on Wednesday night for $13 (price not including drink). I showed restraint and opted for a two-meat plate with smoked turkey and jalapeƱo sausage. Joben attacked two plates of ribs, sausage, turkey, brisket, mashed potatoes, potato salad, et al. My question to Joben, and to you, WacoFork friends, is this: is it worth it?
