News and notes: dine at Chili's to boost Communities in Schools

We were given a heads up on this via our facebook page and want to pass it along. It's a good chance to help out Communities in Schools by simply dining out.

Tomorrow, Chili's will donate 15 percent of the total sale price to Communities in Schools for patrons who mention the promotion to their server. It's all day, from 10:45 a.m. to 9 p.m., so make plans now.

Go to Communities in Schools' facebook page for more information and to print out a flier to give to your server.

Block party slated for June 26

So we kind of feel the summer slow down already around here, but one thing we have our eyes on is the Austin Avenue Block Party planned for June 26.

The street will be blocked off so that party-goers can stroll freely as they peruse live music, sales, giveaways, dine at food trucks and all that implies. The party will begin at 6 p.m. and go until whenever. Stay tuned as we will have more specific info as the date approaches.

Plans for the old Kim's

Waco Tribune-Herald business writer Mike Copeland reporter a couple of weeks ago that the former Kim's location has been purchased and is being renovated by Woody and Darla Page. Woody Page is the owner and namesake of Woody's Wrecker Service.

They are going to turn the former diner into, get this, a 1950s-themed diner. For more, read the story here.
