One More Bite

The WacoFork Blog

Last week we told you about the Methodist Children Home's 5K and 1-mile fun run. This week we have another great chance to get out and get some exercise for a good cause.

Communities in Schools will host the Future So Bright 5K Neon Run on the evening of Friday, May 1.

One of the things I really wanted to do on Saturday was take a minute to look around the food truck event at Heritage Square and appreciate the fact that we could hold something of the kind.

I honestly was looking forward to that possibility as soon as the weather forecast showed it was going to be a fine day. Although I didn't taste as much food as I'd planned, there was a moment a little bit before noon when I looked around and realized the event had lived up to the highest of expecations for turnout.

Polls will close on Friday, April 3 at 11:59pm.

Congratulations to the new Texas Food Truck Champion Chef Tai!!

Wow! What a fun day at the Texas Food Truck Showdown!

I didn't know what to expect, but from a turnout standpoint, I don't think I could have imagined it being any better without causing a massive traffic jam. Initial reports are that as many as 10,000 folks made their way through at some point on Saturday.

I wasn't planning on setting the bar high at lunch today, but that's what happened.

I'm in Houston to work tonight before hustling back to Waco tomorrow morning for the Texas Food Truck Showdown. I noticed a place called the Bombay Pizza Company across the street from my hotel, so I decided to Google it and see if I needed to have lunch there.

We're on board for the MCH 5K

Because it's spring and it's getting warmer outside, we're going to branch out a little and keep you posted when we can about stuff that's happening around town, especially if it's outdoors and fun and for a good cause.

First up, the Methodist Children's Home is hosting the MCH 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run on April 11 at the Waco MCH campus. The event will raise money for MCH, which serves 1,400 children each day through residential programs, foster care and family outreach services.

My friends Jeremy and Shawn and I have this sort of frame of reference that harkens back to our middle school and high school days. We observed back then that some of the guys on our football and basketball teams would assume someone new to the school (or on the opposing team) was awesome simply because they were from out of town.

In other words, unfamiliarity breeds awe. And in case you didn't catch it from the tone of the previous paragraph, we rolled our eyes at this thinking.
