It's going to be a busy month. The kind where I really need to keep a calendar because I can't keep it all straight in my brain. One of the things I definitely have down is the Cupcakes & Cocktails event on May 16 at Sironia.
This is a quarterly affair that just popped up on our radar when Sironia partnered with us earlier this year. For free stuff (food and drink and more) it doesn't get much better than this event.
Waco native Brian Patterson has a new EP, "A Short Century," out there for your listening pleasure. We really dig it and we couldn't be happier for our buddy.
Do yourself a favor and go here or here and buy it. It's the best $5 you'll spend today.
Who serves the best hot dog in town?
I submit it's a dog fight between Katie's Frozen Custard and newcomer G&K Hot Dogs, which has set up shop downtown on Austin Avenue in the last month.
[ "How 'bout …" is the logical extension of our tagline "Where you wanna eat?" Because we've all been there when someone says "Where you wanna eat?" and then everyone stands around a little awkwardly until someone cautiously offers up "How 'bout …" and then the name of a restaurant. It's also a way for us to highlight the restaurants that we want to highlight. Here it goes. ]
Bangkok Royal is Waco's premiere Thai food restaurant offers top notch cuisine in an elegant setting ideal for anything from take out to a a casual lunch to formal celebratory dinners. Open since 2000, Bangkok Royal has established itself as one of the area's favorite restaurants of any kind. BTW, it's a great place for a graduation dinner or any kind of end-of-the-semester treat, so look into booking it now.
If you're celebrating Diadeloso tomorrow, then there's no better food choice for you than the Oso burrito at El Crucero.
Do it.
Well, friends, we did it. Our little Gut Pak has achieved national fame as the Cooking Channel College Eats Bracket Challenge Champion.
We at WacoFork had a fun time being a part of it from the beginning. I was in Austin three weeks ago having a little taste of SXSW when Julie Keith from Vitek's texted and emailed to let me know the Gut Pak was going to be part of this deal. At the time I thought "this will make a fun thing to blog about on Monday."

Looking to shop with the option of snacking? Want to meet for lunch and a maybe pick up the perfect birthday/wedding gift? Just looking for a well-prepared and satisfying meal? The Sironia Cafe provides the ideal setting for all of the above. The Sironia menu ranges from quiche and soup/salad/sandwich combos to as hearty a burger as you'll find anywhere. And desserts? Just try to say no.
[ If you want a nice, concise descriiption of the latest Waco sensation "Wacotown" then I'm not sure I can give one. Basically, our friend Mike Trozzo had the itch to paint a mural with the Wacotown insignia on a downtown Waco building and he added the Heisman bear for good measure. Then, before we really knew what was happening, all the cool kids were walking around with Wacotown T-shirts and conversing with Wacotown on Twitter.
So we wanted in on it, to the extent that we asked Wacotown to give us the five best restaurants in Waco. Mike decided he wanted to write about the five most important restaurants in Waco. ]

If you're a longtime Wacoan, you have very likely made Kitok's one of your Waco traditions. If you haven't, then shame on you. But it occurs to me that we have a whole segment of our population that arrives here, stays for three to five years and then moves on (ok, that's true of most towns, but still). And some of those people might not have made it to Kitok's yet. Two words. Do it!
Waco recently got some love from Eater.com. Not as much as West, relatively speaking, but still.
Former Wacoan and now Austinite Nick Piesco passed this along to us via Twitter earlier this week. With so many Texans and non-Texans wandering around the state during Spring Break, and so many people making a journey to Austin for South By Southwest, Eater.com decided to give tips on places to stop on the way.
