I've covered sports for more than half of my life now. As of April, I will have been on the Waco restaurant beat for four years.

Usually the Venn Diagram of those two things is completely separate. But, over the weekend, there was some overlap. A photo surfaced of a sign that said, and I'm paraphrasing here, restaurants like Pappadeaux, Pappasito's, In-N-Out, Uncle Mario's, Potbelly and the Whole Foods grocery store are coming to Waco.

Once upon a time, on the first cool morning of the fall, I sat on the back porch at Common Grounds and enjoyed a big, warm, bacon-egg-and-cheese breakfast taco with a little bit of that super spicy green sauce that Taqueria El Crucero seems to make a little better than any other place in town.

Then someone blew the whistle on that operation.

We announced at the end of our 12 Days of Christmas Trivia that the Day 12 prize of a $25 gift certificate to Portofino was the first in a new monthly trivia promotion.

Now, with the calendar turned, we're pleased to bring you the second installment, this time with the trivia question coming directly from Portofino owner Nick Colaku.

According to The Boudain Shack's Facebook page, the Cajun restaurant is closing its doors in Robinson and moving downtown in the form of a food truck.

Since I enjoyed Boudain Shack the times I dined there, but rarely made it to Robinson, this is good news to me, since I'm regularly downtown.

The new Coach's downtown is taking care to outfit its space, remodeling the exterior and interior to put its stamp on the location that has had a couple of identities already.

Last time I blogged about Coach's, I forgot that the location was at one time called Square Bar. If I remember correctly, The Olive Branch and Square Bar shared the location. Then it became Sam's on the Square.

Last week, I mentioned in a looking back/looking ahead blog that several new additions had expanded our food truck options beyond tacos. At the time, I made a note-to-self to finally blog on the wood fire pizza truck that popped up in November.

I stopped by the University Parks-Franklin food truck neighborhood on that errand on Wednesday and left with exciting info and some new-restaurant news.

It's a rough time of year for restaurants with the holidays over, folks dieting and the tax man coming around on quarterlies.

There were a couple of December closings already and we've discovered another restaurant has gone dark.
