It feels to me like our town has gone a little quiet at the moment.
Maybe it's because all the schools are out now, Baylor is sleep walking through the first half of summer session, some of my buds have exited for other places, some are preparing to make moves and some folks have just skipped town for a little while. I'm a glass-half-full type of guy lately, though, so I'ma just be happy that parking spaces are easy to find.
I have a couple of issues/problems today and I would like your advising, WacoFork friends (they're not really problems, they're more like petty complaints but I am appealing for your sympathy or judgement, whichever you feel applies).
My first issue is that I've come to the realization that I don't want what's good for me and I can prove this with a simple illustration involving froyo and milkshakes.
[ "How 'bout …" is the logical extension of our tagline "Where you wanna eat?" Because we've all been there when someone says "Where you wanna eat?" and then everyone stands around a little awkwardly until someone cautiously offers up "How 'bout …" and then the name of a restaurant. It's also a way for us to highlight the restaurants that we want to highlight. Here it goes. ]
Clay Pot serves fantastic Vietnamese cuisine, including but not limited to traditional Vietnamese soup (Pho), fried rice, banh mi and an impressive variety of vegetarian options, in an elegant-yet-casual setting. The restaurant in the red-and-yellow building near the Baylor campus has been family owned and operated for 20 years.
Here's the sixth installment of Tuesday Trivia, which we'll be running all summer.
We're tying trivia to new music, movie and TV DVD releases (though admittedly we've been music-intensive so far), since that happens on Tuesdays, so you'll have some framework for my question's origin. But I'm not going to frame the question so that you'll just be able to look up new releases and find the answer. I can hopefully make it a bit trickier than that.
I'm invoking Rule 90-20 today. That's the rule that states if the temperature outside is below 90 degrees and the wind is blowing less than 20 mph, then I probably play golf. This is not to be confused with Rule 80-20, which states that if the temperature outside is below 80 degrees and the wind less than 20 mph, then I definitely play golf.
If you want to read some compelling copy presented to you by this site, try reading Thursday's Lambert's blog.
Cross another one off the list, and an important one at that.
In my quest to dine at all of the Texas Monthly Top 50 barbecue joints, I've been procrastinating checking off Lambert's in Austin. The only reason for the delay is that it's not a pop-in joint. For example, on Wednesday night I called at 6:15 to see if I could reserve a table for three at seven. No such luck on an idle Wednesday night in June.
Well, kids, summer is here, so you should know that this exists: Barefoot Ski Ranch Cable Park and the BSR Bar & Grill.
It's about a 15-minute drive from most prominent locations within our humble burg, on the way to Mexia. It's about as country redneck a thing as I can imagine myself really wanting to do. The way it works is they have a pulley system of sorts that drags patrons around a circular lake while the patrons ski on a wake board. In other words, it's the best way to go wake boarding if you don't own a boat.
Here's the fifth installment of Tuesday Trivia, which we'll be running all summer.
We're tying trivia to new music, movie and TV DVD releases, since that happens on Tuesdays, so you'll have some framework for my question's origin. But I'm not going to frame the question so that you'll just be able to look up new releases and find the answer. I can hopefully make it a bit trickier than that.

Hungry for Music?
I was riding to Dave's Burger Barn with my buddy Wes Kitten today. I was thinking we were on the way to see if Wes could conquer the Zipper Ripper challenge.
But when I asked him if he'd done anything to specifically prepare for it, he just laughed. He had no intention of taking the Zipper Ripper challenge. He just wanted a good burger.
