Pizza and a football argument: Pilot

My friend Tye Barrett and I grabbed some pizza from Nizza Pizza and talked about Big 12 football. Watch it.

Who are the people in your neighborhood?

I want to keep this simple. I hesitate to write it, but it needs to be out there for reasons that will become apparent.

I parked at the Pizza Hut next door to Common Grounds at 10:23 this morning (according to the clock on my car), right in front of a tow-zone sign protecting Pizza Hut's parking spaces. I considered this choice, looked over my shoulder to see the sign on the door advertising that the restaurant opened at 11 and decided I would either leave Common Grounds by 11 (most likely) or eat at Pizza Hut (considerably less likely). Either way, I wouldn't be around to have my car towed.

Cafe Homestead is hosting a South of the Border Dinner on Oct. 19.

In case you're already wondering, this doesn't coincide with the interests of Baylor football fans as the dinner begins at 7 p.m., an hour after Baylor and Iowa State kickoff the Bears' homecoming game. So those crowds won't overlap. Well, you could probably do the dinner and make it to Floyd Casey by halftime, but Baylor games haven't been too entertaining after halftime if you know what I mean.

The Boudain Shack: charming, delicious, easy

Last week I wrote about The Boudain Shack in Robinson. That blog has accumulated quite a few hits, so I imagine it's piqued the interest of a few WacoFork friends.

I'm here to tell you, it's one thing to write about a restaurant and another to dine there. I took my buddy Tye to The Boudain Shack on Thursday for lunch and we were smitten by the atmosphere and owner Angela Everett and her family long before our food arrived (which was almost immediately after we sat down, so that illustrates their significant charm).

Back in the groove at The Mix

It's time for full disclosure, WacoFork friends.

If you've noticed the pace of blogs on WacoFork dipping from around five per week to two to three per week lately, it's because the Dr. Jekyll restaurant blogger has increasingly been running around as Mr. Hyde sportswriter. I figured I could write about football six days a week and keep up my WacoFork blogging schedule, but turns out I can't. I would like to blame this on a slow down in restaurant news, but that's probably not true. Stuff's happening. It's just that it's more fun to go to the Baylor football press luncheon than snoop around construction sites.

I recently noticed a taco truck on my morning commute to the office. It's called El Fogoncito and it's located in the parking lot of the Shell station at Franklin and New Road.

It was actually closed when I stopped by, so I proceeded up the road to Rosa's. So I can't tell you much about El Fogoncito. I highly suspect it's about the same as the other taco trucks.

My eye! Cajun in Robinson

The minute I walked into The Boundain Shack, I wished I was going to dine there and not just collect the restaurant's address and phone number for a listing.

It was about 11 this morning and I already had a lunch planned with a friend that was not going to take place in deep Robinson. Also, I ate brisket and delicious potato salad for dinner on Tuesday night at Coach's in McGregor, so I still felt as if a salad for lunch was in order at noon on Wednesday.

Weekend set list

As a general rule the rest of this fall, weekends when the Baylor Bears football team plays in town will be much more active around here than when Baylor is off like this weekend or when the Bears play away games.

For example, a week from now West Virginia comes to town as Baylor kicks off Big 12 play. Two weeks after that, the Iowa State Cyclones show up for Homecoming and three weeks after that, the Oklahoma Sooners come in for  a Thursday night game.

News and notes: Dichotomy folks anxious to open

If you've been wondering where I've been lately, just assume that football (and maybe golf) have taken priority. But rest assured that if I come across restaurant news, it will be passed along to you. Like this:

Dichotomy is waiting on its contractors to make final finishes, some of which involve parts arriving in the mail and being installed. When that's done, I'm betting the Dichotomy folks work around the clock to open their doors as quickly as they can.

It's raining, so let's just chili out

The rain is dampening my motivation today.

Don't misread that sentiment. I love the rain. We need a day like this once a month. But it's making me wonder how many of the weekend's festivities either 1) will get canceled, or 2) should get canceled.
