One More Bite

The WacoFork Blog

Last week, I mentioned in a looking back/looking ahead blog that several new additions had expanded our food truck options beyond tacos. At the time, I made a note-to-self to finally blog on the wood fire pizza truck that popped up in November.

I stopped by the University Parks-Franklin food truck neighborhood on that errand on Wednesday and left with exciting info and some new-restaurant news.

It's a rough time of year for restaurants with the holidays over, folks dieting and the tax man coming around on quarterlies.

There were a couple of December closings already and we've discovered another restaurant has gone dark.

Looking back to look forward

Happy new year, everyone.

Not like "Happy New Year" with capital letters, but I just wanted to wish everyone a good first working week of 2015. I, for one, need the encouragement. Is anyone else having trouble finding their rhythm this week? The weather isn't helping, I'm afraid. But here we go anyway.

Fuego opened to the public this morning, but it warmed up with a preview on Sunday evening and we took advantage of the sneak peek.

The restaurant, which features jumbo tacos stuffed with fresh ingredients, opened its first location in the Waco area next door to the urgent-care facility in Woodway, just past the corner of Estates Drive and Highway 84.

Well, friends, we've reached Day 12 and that brings us to a bigger prize AND an announcement: beginning today and charging ahead into 2015, Portofino is sponsoring a monthly trivia question with a $25 gift certificate.

Congratulations to Chelsea Judge, who was quick on the draw with the answer of Pretty Paper as sung by Willie Nelson. She won a $10 gift card at Vitek's.

Congratulations to Suzanne Frazier, the Day 10 winner of The 12 Days of Christmas Trivia. We only have two days left, including the biggest prize yet to come on Tuesday.

By the way, even if you've already won, you're still eligible to win these last two days. Today's prize is $10 at Vitek's. As always, be the first to email the correct answer to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to win. Here's today's Christmas Carol trivia question:

Congratulations to Kathleen McKinney, who won The 12 Days of Christmas Trivia Day 10 by giving the correct answer of The Importance of being Ernest Saves Christmas.

Today we have a before-and-after question requiring two responses that combine to form the correct answer. Here’s an example:

Q – Located in London, what is the largest four-faced chiming clock in the world that manufactures some of the tastiest ice cream east of Burlington, Vermont?

A – Big Ben & Jerry’s

Get it? It's Big Ben (clock) + Ben & Jerry's (ice cream) = Big Ben & Jerry's. The prize today is $20 at Cafe Homestead. As always, the first one to email the correct answer to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. wins.

NAME THE NEW CHRISTMAS MOVIE CLASSIC: Figure out which two movies are being referenced. Combine the movie titles to create a new Christmas movie title (destined to be a classic).

Since it's getaway weekend for a lot of people, this movie seems appropriate. It's difficult to know what's the worse-case scenario for this main character: protecting passengers from a plane full of vipers or waking up with his hand in John Candy's bum.

Congratulations to Conley Isom, who won The 12 Days of Christmas Trivia Day 9 who gave the correct answer of Carol of the Bells by John Williams.

I love soda.

I know it’s bad. I know it’s REALLY bad. But I love it. I don’t want to fight about this. I just want you to read this piece and know that I am doing my darnedest to give you an insight on soda in Waco from a place of deep care and affection.

Congrats to Karl Aho, the Day 7 winner of The 12 Days of Christmas Trivia. he correctly gave the before-and-after new-Christmas-Classic "White Christmas Vacation."

We're hitting it hard this year with 12 straight (week) days of Christmas Carol Trivia. Today's prize is $10 to Amelia's on the Avenue (at Sironia).

We're switching back to Christmas Carols from before-and-after Christmas movies today. Don't worry, though, the before-and-after questions will return. The first person to email the correct name of the song and the artist we're looking for to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. wins. Here's the question:

This conductor gave us Darth Vader's walk-in music, so of course he also nailed this battle-march of a Christmas song.
