While I have previously dined at Which Wich before, I was excited to see it come to Waco. For those who have never taken the leap, it can be quite confusing. First pick the type of sandwich you ant and find the corresponding bag. Don't worry. They're labeled pretty well. Then with the provided sharpie fill out what you want and don't ant. I personally enjoy the TBR or Turkey Bacon Ranch to non-Which Wichers. Quite tasty if you ask me. My co-worker loves that she can put avocado on her sandwich for a little extra. Back to the ordering though. Fill in the circle (like you did for those nasty standardized tests in school) or X through them if you must rebel. Add as much or little. Whatever your hearts desire. Fill in your name and hand bag to cashier. Wait until your names called (hopefully they'll pronounce it better than they did mine), and pick up your 'wich' in the same bag you handed them earlier. Now enjoy a yummy sandwich. If you get bored before ordering, lots of people decorate their sandwich bag.
I have had the honor of tasting Janet Cherry's cakes/cupcakes multiple times over the past two months. And each time they get better and better! Her frosting is light and airy, but still sweet enough that men would like it. It's not too heavy to drown out the sweetness of the cake. The icing and cake go hand in hand so you won't end up with a toothache upon polishing it off! So if you desire a tasty cake that won't be overly sweet, order with Cherry On Top!
I love Health Camp! Opened over sixty years, my parents actually went here on dates and I often bring non-Wacoans here for the nostalgia of it all. The burgers are greasy and tasty. I also prefer the homemade onion rings. And I can't go without ordering one of their numerous shakes. I prefer the peanut butter as it's tasty, creamy, and cool with a crunch of peanuts in it.

I've tried this pizza place three times and have walked away very full, and satisfied. And yes, the service is incredible slow. But if you aren't necessarily in a hurry, there's not a big problem. The pizza portions are huge and I've normally split a large pizza with a big group. Watch out though all your sausage lovers - these little pieces of sausage have a tendency to fall off your pizza since the cheese doesn't hold them onto the pie. I like this local joint and will probably go back.

Clay Pot
Part of the experience of visiting Clay Pot is sitting on the floor eating your meal. Yes, they have chairs and tables, but you go partly for the experience, right? I hadn't been in awhile and was sad to see some of my favorite dishes no longer available. But the tea was just as good! My favorite is the Chrysanthemum tea which is hot, creamy, and has a hint of spice in there. Yum! For someone who doesn't seek out Asian food, I do enjoy some of their dishes, including the spring rolls.
I love this little place tucked in the outskirts of Baylor campus. It's a local joint where everyone can find something they love. The salsa is fresh, homemade, and delicious while being served with tasty blue corn chips. I prefer the mini pizzas, especially the Greek ones. I've been told their shakes/smoothies are good, but have yet to try them. Oh, and there's extra parking in the back that they share with Dancing Bear Pub.

I love the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Sauce! It's a blend of creamy cheese and spiciness. It's got a kick with a yum! I try to order it on most anything I get. I also love their green ranch dip that comes with the chips. So good and their patio is nice on pretty days! While this place may not be local, it's regional with it being based out of Austin.

The best part of McAlister's is their homemade sweet tea. When I first tasted it about nine years ago, it brought back memories of my mom's homemade sweet tea. It's fresh and hot. The warm tea melts some of the ice and just tastes fabulous. The food's pretty good too, though a bit pricy on some items. But with free wifi and unlimited tea, one can't go wrong. Also, the Waco Dr. location normally isn't too busy - so it's good escape from the one near Baylor and I-35.

I decided to visit this cute little cupcake shop to try it out. I got there about 15 minutes before they closed and carefully selected the Peanut Butter and Oreo Cupcakes to take home. Not sure of which to eat, I split them in half and had some of each with a friend at home. Now, I love peanut butter things, and while the cupcake was good with a chocolate cake and peanuty frosting, it was only decent. The oreo, on the other hand, was fabulous! I'm not normally a fan of chocolate cake, but when you combine it with the oreo creme frosting, it's just like a party in your mouth. Yum! Definitely would go back, especially to try some of their fun flavors.

.......you need to come visit Waco and Dubl-r Burger. I really expect to see a place like this on his show, 'Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives' one day. It's that kind of place. One of the first things I noticed upon walking through the door were the fresh balls of meat they were pulling out of the box and began forming them into meat patties. The six girls in my group stuck out slightly especially since none of us had never been there. The cheeseburger basket was recommended and we were not disappointed! It was very juicy by the time our food arrived (pretty quick for the busy place). Definitely fresh! Definintly waiting Guys arrival someday!

I recently celebrated a birthday and decided to visit somewhere new for my birthday lunch. I decided upon WCC because they close at 2pm everyday and I rarely go out for lunch. But this place is a must! I'm embarrassed to say my own 80something grandmother has been frequenting this little joint since it opened and always talks about their burgers. The small cafe is owned and operated by Mission Waco so of course your want to support this great non-profit. Their speciality is the World Cup Burger that has cheese and a special sauce all on our toasted sourdough bun. Oh my goodness so tasty!!! The metly cheese and sauce just mixes together so well in your mouth, it's hard to put it down so you can enjoy their fries. My grandmother likes the sweet potato fries while I prefer the normal potato ones. I will warn you though that they don't have a soda fountain, so its a bottle and that means no refills. Overall, I definitely recommend you visit this place. And yes, I think it's the Best Burger in Waco!

Bangkok Royal
I know many of the others who have written reviews seem to all love this place. I will preface this that I'm not the biggest fan of Asian food. I went with friends and attempted to have an open mind. I got one of their salads and found it quite tasty.......once I received it. My group of six was seated quickly in the relatively deserted place. However it took us forever to get our food. The appetizers were brought out with our meal only after we asked about them. While I understand not being able to bring out everyones dish in one trip, but we ended up waiting another five minutes before the other two members got their meal. Meanwhile I'm still waiting. And I wait. Another good five to ten minutes before they bring out my salad. (I secretly wondered if they had to go kill the chicken for my salad out back). Then they forgot my friends dessert order. The meal was tasty and the curry was strong. But I doubt I'll go back simply because of the poor service. Also my aunt had previously visited this place and found their service to be slow as well.

Ninfa's is the place my sister always wants to come anytime she's in town. I have learned to appreciate this large, warehouse-like place since I've been frequenting it for the past 15 years. What can I say? They bring green & red salsa with the chips. Mix it together and it's a tasty hot and creamy bang in your mouth. Yum! The food's great but service can be slower during rush hour and on the weekends. Beware, it's a favorite place of bear fans, so it's really crazy Homecoming, Parent's Weekend, and home games. There could be wait. There are better local spots to go when wanting some mexican food, but it's not a bad place to try at least once.

.... and I wasn't disappointed with it. The queso was pretty good the first time I visited and the rest of the meal was pretty standard tex-mex. This past week, however, my friends and I received wonderful service from a waitress whose name is escaping me right now. She wonderfully refilled our drinks and kept the salsa/chips filled. While I tend to pride myself on being able to handle majority of hot and spicy items, I find their salsa to be on the spicy side. It appears fresh but too hot for me to really enjoy it. Also, the quesadillas looked more like tacos since they were folded over rather than one tortilla on top of the other. And the chicken was a little dry and I was sad they skimped on the cheese.

The Olive Branch
I know that have gourmet homemade is normally pricy, but I feel like the Olive Branch is more so. I have visited Oliver Branch is all three of its constantly moving locations. But I think its current place is the largest. I have always been impressed with their desserts. I bought a Living Social Deal and splurged on the cupcakes with my friend. Delish! The tiny sugar crystals sparkled on the top of my Pink Champagne Cupcake making it seem more enticing. The food's usually fresh and service isn't too slow considering I was there during the lunch hour. It's very quaint and sometimes I wish it were open for dinner.

I like sanwiches. All different kinds. But the 'Schmaltz' is just so good. The combination of meats, melted cheeses, and buttery bread all slightly warm & toasty and topped with the black olives is just out of this world tasty! Anytime a place has a sandwich named after them on the menu must be tried at least once! For those who have not experienced this Waco jem are missing out. The Blue Plate special consists of the 'Schmaltz' sandwich, chips, and rink for a reasonable price. I personally prefer to order the large sandwich and save half for another meal so I can savor it more. This is another place I bring my out-of-town friends. Love it! And this location is open for dinner while the other closes after lunch.

I've only been to the downtown location once, but it was crowded. The food tastes the same as the other location, but it was extremely hard to find a table. Since there were seven of us in my group, we stood around staing at people waiting to pounce on the first person to leave. We finally squeezed around table near the corner. So, you better get there early before the lunch rush. Calling ahead is always a good option! Or better yet, make the 5-10min drive to the Valley Mills location. They're even open later.

I visited Jimmy John's because friends were excited Waco was getting one. Knowing nothing of it, I tried it. Twice. And both times left me feeling like it was over-rated. The sandwiches are heavy on the bread (which normally I don't mind) and heavy on the lettuce. There was some meat in mine and other good flavors. But I was disapointed and let down since I expected a lot more. Don't get me wrong, it was still good. But I can find a similiar sandwich somewhere else.

I love Baris! It's incredibly tasty and the food is always good. This small Italian place is where you should go if looking for some pasta. My favorite is their calzone. This large puff pasty-thing is full of ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, and little balls of sausage. I was introduced to this twelve years ago and still love it. When my friends come to town, I always bring them here. My friend who makes her own alfredo sauce from scratch, actually preferes Baris chicken alfredo over her mom's. It's that goo. The only down side is trying to find a parking spot. Good luck with that. They also have daily lunch specials. But remember, they are closed on Mondays.

After seeing reviews others had said about Shorty's, I decided to give it a try. My group each ordered their slice of the day. The pizza came a lot quicker than we expected and was hot and tasty. The price was even better with my two slices topping off at barely $4! The service was really good, but then again Baylor was out and there weren't too many customers. It would be a great place to watch the game, but I must caution and repeat what others have said: it can be tiring when sitting on the bar stools with no back for a couple of hours. Overall it's a good joint with interesting hat collection along the top.
