We're ready to launch into a new year, one which prognosticators are prognosticating will be a great one for Waco's economy. Part of that, of course, is new businesses, especially new restaurants, coming to town and opening up. Later in the week, we will unpack some of the things ahead of us in 2013.
The first item of interest on the Waco restaurant calendar is Restaurant Week coming up in a couple of weeks. We're glad to be teaming up with this event as it will feature the same thing we feature — restaurants in our town — and benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters.
During the week of January 21-26, Waco restaurants will offer specific Restaurant Week menu items. When you order the designated items, a portion of your ticket (a couple of dollars at least) will go to Big Brothers Big Sisters. We're told they're hoping to raise $10,000 for the organization.
So you'll be able to dine out that week knowing you're boosting an organization in which community-minded people are taking an active interest and giving their time to mentor kids. That's a good reason to dine out, right?
Participating restaurants include WacoFork partners Vitek's and WiseGuys along with Cantina Texas, The Elite, Taqueria Jardin de Jalisco, La Fiesta, Poppa Rollo's, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Salty Dog, Schmaltz's and Which Wich.
We will have more blog about Restaurant Week, including a list of the menu items to entice you and testimonials about Big Brothers Big Sisters. We're definitely willing to twist your arm on this one, but we don't think we'll have to.
