News and notes: Krispy Chicken puts all its eggs in Franklin Ave basket

There's bad new and good news regarding the availability of fried chicken in the downtown area.

The bad news: Krispy Chicken on 11th Street has closed. The sign on the window claims that it has closed temporarily for repairs to the building. However, the Krispy Chicken folks aren't planning to reopen it as a Krispy Chicken at least. Perhaps they're making repairs in order to sell it.

The good news, though: fans and loyal patrons of Krispy Chicken can still get fried chicken legs, tenders, fried catfish and all that Krispy Chicken implies at their store at 23rd Street and Franklin Avenue.

This store consolidation might work out quite well for the Krispy Chicken people. When I stopped by on Friday morning a little after 11 a.m., customers were already lining up at both the walk-up and drive-thru windows. But maybe it's always like that.

El Potosino sticking with lunch

I spoke with El Potosino owner Sergio Garcia on Thursday, hoping to learn more about his serving the old Siete Mares menu at his new 4th Street location.

So I was a little disappointed to learn that Garcia has decided not to continue opening in the evenings with his seafood offerings. He's going to stick with lunch, though customers can go off-menu and maybe, on a lucky day, order crab nachos and the like.

Simply put, Garcia wasn't seeing enough traffic at night to make it worth his while to be open. Fair enough.

He's also still in the process of changing the name of his restaurant from El Potosino to Sergio's, but he's waiting on the signage.

Waco Downtown Farmers Market gaining momentum

The Waco Downtown Farmers Market opened two weeks ago to rave reviews. I spoke with several vendors who said they had a decent second week during the Thanksgiving weekend.

So here comes week three of the venture this weekend and there's plenty of evidence to suggest the thing is catching on. When the market launched two weeks ago, the organizers said they had 15-20 vendors signed up. The market's website now lists 27 vendors.

One last hoorah for this season

It's currently just before noon on Friday and the weather outside doesn't seem too conducive to tailgating festivities tomorrow prior to the Baylor vs. Texas football game.

Believe me, though, unless it's unfit for man nor beast outside, the Tye Barrett/WacoFork tailgate show will go on.

Stop by, say hello and grab a WacoFork T-shirt if you don't already have one.
