The week of the sandwich: The Olive Branch Santa Fe

Tuesday of "The Week of the Sandwich" took me to The Olive Branch, where I stared down the menu and debated ordering the club sandwich.

I wanted to order the club sandwich almost solely because of Mitch Hedberg and his club sandwich joke. But I could not resist the Santa Fe.

The Santa Fe Sandwich from The Olive Branch features a guacamole mayo dressing which sets the sandwich apart from anything I could make at home. It's the zing that makes the turkey, chipotle jack cheese, tomato and lettuce pop. It's served on homemade wheat bread, which I acknowledge is another thing I don't regularly (read: have never) prepared at my house.

And I also admit that The Olive Branch is one of those places where I'm always sucked in by one menu item (at least when ordering lunch). The Santa Fe gets me every time. So for all I know, the club sandwich might be out of this world.

Because this is my blog, though, and because I could not go all week on "The Week of the Sandwich" without sharing the Hedberg club sandwich bit, I'm going to quote it at length right now.

[ Scene opens with Mitch standing on stage, wearing dark glasses, long hair draped across his face ]

Mitch: I order the club sandwich all the time, but I'm not even a member, man. I don't know how I get away with it. How'd it start anyway?

[ Scene cuts to two dudes making a sandwich ]

Dude 1: I like my sandwiches with three pieces of bread.

Dude 2: So do I!

Dude 1: Well let's form a club then.

Dude 2: Alright, but we need more stipulations.

Dude 1: Yes we do; instead of cutting the sandwich once, let's cut it again.

Dude 2: Yes, four triangles, and we will position them into a circle. In the middle we will dump chips.

Dude 1: Or potato salad.

Dude 2: Okay. I got a question for ya, how do you feel about frilly toothpicks?

Dude 1: I'm for 'em!

Dude 2: Well this club is formed; spread the word on menus nationwide.

[ Fade to black. Bit over ]

I hope that put a smile on your face on this Tuesday. It did it for me. Don't forget, there are still four more days remaining in sandwich week and I need to get your vote for best sandwich in town.
