Freebirds officially sets opening day

Since we last reported on Freebirds' grand opening in Waco, the party has crept one day closer. Freebirds has now officially set its opening day for Sept. 10.

Freebirds district manager Jamie Williams confirmed that it's a done deal. So let the countdown begin. As of this hour, Freebirds will open in 311 hours (13 days minus 1 hour).

Remember, Freebirds will invite the first 25 people in line into the restaurant for an opening party in which each inaugural customer will be rewarded with free Freebirds burritos for a year (limit one per week, I think).

For those planning to camp out in order to be one of the first 25 patrons, Freebirds has a few rules which we have obtained:

  • You must not leave.
  • Stay in numerical order.
  • Patrons under 18 need approval from a guardian.
  • No boozin'.
  • Be respectful — the plants are not your bathroom.
  • Tents, sleeping bags, etc., must be back in car by 8 a.m. on the 10th.
  • Have fun.

One more bite: We're going to sponsor a person or group in line for the Freebirds party. We'll provide WacoFork T-shirts, food and comfortable chairs. A tent is even negotiable. The booty from the party is all yours. All we want in return is a little video work. We'll provide the camera.
