Common Grounds opening Crucero truck this week

The next wave of exciting new dining developments in our town begins this week as Taqueria El Crucero and Common Grounds will roll out their partnership in the form of a Crucero taco truck on location at Common Grounds.

As of Saturday, Crucero fans will be able to buy and eat their favorite breakfast tacos and burritos at Common Grounds. The truck will be open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and during special events.

Common Grounds general manager Blake Batson told me they will stay open on Sunday this week because of the opening weekend excitement coupled with the Baylor vs. SMU football season opener on Sunday evening.

The menu will feature Crucero's plethora of breakfast taco and burrito combinations, plus four specialty burritos includeing a new Oso breakfast burrito and another specialty item they're keeping a secret.

The seeds of this new development were planted last fall when Crucero briefly offered its breakfast burritos at Common Grounds, making Waco's most entrenched local coffee shop a fantastic option for breakfast.

The logistics didn't allow for Common Grounds to continue selling Crucero burritos over the counter, but the idea was too good to leave it alone. After months of planning and implementation, the pairing is back, making breakfast or lunch at Common Grounds a brand new and enticing choice. For those of us who routinely study or work at Common Grounds, well, our food problem is solved.

As stated in a previous blog, I'm looking forward to seeing some of Common Grounds live music events, including Mute Math in October, and being able to pregame the show with a Crucero burrito. For now, the Common Grounds folks still have to decide how often they'll open the truck in the evening. I caught singer/songwriters Jillian Edwards and Caleb Chapman play on the Common Grounds stage last week. The place was packed and I'm betting if they'd had burritos available, they would have sold a bunch.
