News and notes: mystery on the menu at Poppa Rollo's

The WacoFork wire came through again. It's really having quite a week.

This time, I received a text alerting me to something fun happening in town this weekend at Poppa Rollo's. It's the kind of fun that might take some commitment but has the potential to come through as one of those great nights out.

A group called Over & Out is putting on a mystery dinner theater production all weekend at Poppa Rollo's. There will be three shows — 9 p.m. Friday, 6:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets cost $30, which includes a three-course dinner and the show. They had special bundle packages available for $45, which included the added bonuses of a T-shirt, preferred seating and the option to be part of the production, but those tickets are sold out.

If you're intrigued by the prospect of mystery, check out overandoutdinner.com where you can get more information, learn appetizing plot points, buy tickets and watch the promo video.

The video includes the tagline: "Don't go to the wrong grave. Go to our mystery dinner."

But wait, that's not all

Derek Webb is playing at Common Grounds on Saturday night. So stop complaining to your friends that there's nothing to do in Waco. I just gave you two things.

Tickets for the Derek Webb show cost $10 in advance and $12 day of show at Common Grounds. Check out commongroundswaco.com for details. While you're there, you'll see that Jars of Clay will be here next weekend.

Derek Webb one weekend and Jars of Clay the next! Are you kidding me! Our town is turning into the Awesome Live Music Capital of the World Jr. (especially if you spent time with a youth group in the 1990s).

One more bite — Today's WacoFork wire MVP is my friend Becky Murphy, who alerted me to the mystery theater show at Poppa Rollo's. Murphy, a great ambassador for WacoFork, produces one of my every morning websites — chipperthings.com. Two reasons to check out chipperthings.com: 1) If you have any friends who live in houses, apartments, duplexes … basically anything with walls, one of Murphy's woodburns would make a fantastic gift for those friends; and 2) the constantly updated blog is one of those things that can make you take a deep breath and realize that today's going to be ok. Her "I'd Rather Be Short" series is as heart-warming and smile-inducing as anything on the humor shelf at Barnes & Noble.
