Wow! What a fun day at the Texas Food Truck Showdown!
I didn't know what to expect, but from a turnout standpoint, I don't think I could have imagined it being any better without causing a massive traffic jam. Initial reports are that as many as 10,000 folks made their way through at some point on Saturday.
We arrived early and saw activity from well before 11 a.m. until we finally packed up our table a little after 3 p.m. I was able to chat with a ton of local foodies about the items they were tasting, so much so that I didn't actually get to try many items. I had a grilled-cheese sandwich from Burro and it was worth driving back from Houston this morning. That good.
There's still time to head out there this evening for another round. Remember, the food trucks will be open again starting at 5. Among the items I'm really wanting to try is the fried avocado taco from Urban Cowboy.
Special thanks to Chelsea Santos and Christina Kuhlman, who shot all the food items in our #TFTS slideshow. And thanks to Melissa and Toph Whisnant (Toph took the cover photo for this blog) and Cory for helping me run the show. And thanks to everyone who stopped by to say hi.
