Happy Mix-in-a-Salad Day

Can I just be frank for a minute here? Today feels like the most pointless day of the entire year to blog about restaurants.

I'm sure everyone had at least one big, indulgent, starch-intensive Thanksgiving Dinner and I'm well aware that at least some of you in WacoFork land had as many as three. Personally, I had one and a couple of rounds of leftovers, which I enjoy as much as the dinner itself. And then I'm also guessing most of you enjoyed a nice restaurant meal on Friday evening after a day of Black Friday shopping or high school football watching.

So by Sunday afternoon, we were all wanting go devote more of our thoughts and efforts to exercising more and consuming less. If on Sunday afternoon you were thinking "I could really go for a steak, baked potato and a couple of beers," then I suggest you begin this week by consulting a cardiologist.

But since it's the Monday after Thanksgiving and I've spent the last four days just kind of chilling out, I definitely feel the need to get back to work. So I'm keeping this whole WacoFork One More Bite blog fresh by writing something. And because the blog medium is a pretty post-modern, self-aware thing, I can blog about the fact that I'm not quite sure what to blog about today.

Don't worry, I've got some things planned as there are still interesting items out there. Just this morning at the coffee shop, I was asked what's new in the food scene. I replied that there's the new Chicago-style eatery called WiseGuys. But I didn't want to rush into that today.

Toady, let's all take a step back from eating for pleasure. How does that sound? Let's call it, Mix-in-a-Salad-and-Feel-Good-about-Our-Choices Day. I would even venture to suggest a whole week of that, but let's not be crazy.

So, yeah, try a salad. Maybe take a peek at Eat Well Waco's website. See if hummus is on the menu at Crav at Gourmet Gallery this week. And then we will just sort of encourage each other a little bit to eat smaller portions, less sugar and go for a walk or jog.

Lord knows we need to be proactive about this as we have another big round of heavy eating coming as soon as Christmas parties start.

Of course, mentioning the word frank in the first paragraph of this blog made me think of Frank in Austin and the Carolina Porker at that establishment. The Carolina Porker is a hot dog frank, wrapped in bacon and deep fried, then placed on a bun on top of pimento cheese and then topped with horse-raddish cole slaw. And you know what? Even though it's the Monday after Thanksgiving and I should be thinking about doing some healthy eating between now and Christmas, I still want one.

I don't think I'll ever be skinny.
