Carving out a Thanksgiving game plan? Ask WacoFork

(This is, mostly, an actual email received by WacoFork. It has been slightly altered in order to make it a better blog. The restaurant information is completely accurate.)

Dear WacoFork,

My husband and I live in Austin and my parents are in Dallas. We're going to be meeting in Waco for Thanksgiving dinner this year. I was hoping you might have some insight into which restaurants will be open for Thanksgiving dinner. We're trying to avoid the chains, but I'm not sure what other options are out there. Must have alcohol! :-)

Thanks,
Pilgrim

Dear Pilgrim,

I'm going to put my feelers out for this one. If you're in a hurry to make plans, you might try calling The Elite Circle Grille, Diamond Backs and George's. If you need the phone numbers, they're available on our site or by downloading the new WacoFork iPhone app. It's free!

Sincerely,
Native Wacoan

Dear WacoFork,

Thanks! The only one that doesn't seem to have a website is Diamond Backs. I'll keep looking for a menu online! BTW, the iPhone app is the coolest thing ever. Everyone in Waco, as well as those from Austin and Dallas who frequently drive through Waco, should download it.

Thanks again,
Pilgrim

Dear Pilgrim,

I found answers! I called the places I mentioned previously and they will all be closed. However, The Grille inside the Waco Hilton will be open. They will be having a Thanksgiving banquet so you will likely need reservations. … Cafe Viejo San Juan, Waco's only Puerto Rican restaurant, will be open as well. They don't have a bar, but will allow you to bring your own beer, wine or other various liquor.

Hope that helps,
Native Wacoan

Dear WacoFork,

Awesome! Thanks! WacoFork is sooooo cooool!

Sincerely,
Pilgrim
