A new family-style restaurant called Bronc's and serving breakfast, lunch and dinner is planning to open in October next door to Cavender's in the Valley Mills-Waco Drive shopping center.
My friend Tate Barrett reminded me of this place today. I'd seen the sign and figured it would be a bar, but Tate asking about it prompted me to go inside and learn more. I'm glad I did as co-owner Johnny Miller gave me the inside scoop.
Miller said it will be family style with some share-able entrees, similar to the feel of the DFW chain Babe's. Mostly, though, it will focus on making all of its dishes old-fashioned home cooking "like grandma used to make," Miller said.
It's definitely Western themed on the inside as they've done an excellent job with decorations. They also have a couple of supermarket coin-ride buckin' broncos near the register that will be a delight for the toddlers. I can't wait to go there with Cory and see Miles and Sadie riding the broncs.
A better use for that space
I think everyone knows I do a lot of sportswriting and sometimes this blog suffers as a result. But in one case last week, it benefited. My friend Brice Cherry, the Waco Tribune-Herald sports editor, asked me if I heard that Heitmiller Steakhouse was taking over the old Quaker Steak & Lube location. That was news to me.
But, yeah, that's what's happening. More info in the Trib story here.
Also in the Trib
Also in the Trib, I learned that a quick-serve Mexican joint called Fuego is opening two locations. One will be in the Woodway shopping center that is also home to a new urgent care facility. The other is set to open near Baylor off of I-35. For more info on that story, go here.
