The cool part about this WacoFork gig for me is that I feel obligated to get around the state and try restaurants that either might be headed our way or just demand to be written about in this space.
To that end, since my sister, Calley Durant, had a baby in Fort Worth on Tuesday, I NEEDED to drive up to Cowtown a day early in order to refamiliarize myself with Fuzzy's Taco Shop. I'm pleased to report that I dined on tasty crawfish and shredded beef tacos (pictured), which along with an iced tea cost just $5 and change.
I think that's going to be the cool thing about Fuzzy's. It's pretty versatile. It's good for a snack, a light lunch or dinner, but it has the menu to accommodate a full-spread dinner with chips and queso and such.
Oh, and we know the location now.
Waco Tribune-Herald business columnist Mike Copeland reported Sunday that Fuzzy's Taco Shop is destined for a Waco Drive location near McAlister's and across Waco Drive from Gold's Gym. Copeland also pointed out that Fuzzy's arrival goes along with The Rusty Taco as part of Waco's growing Mexican food scene. Of course, you heard about both Rusty Taco and Fuzzy's coming to town here first. It's nice that we can sound the alarm and then have other local media come in and fill in some details. We'll call it teamwork.
It's interesting to see, as Waco continues to attract new businesses with higher frequency, where the new joints want to locate. Freebirds, Guitar Center, Mama Fu's, Aldi, Smashburger, Rusty Taco and Fuzzy's Taco Shop all put their pegs within a couple miles of the Waco Drive, Valley Mills intersection, which I consider to be the nexus of our town.
I hope the new Baylor-centric, downtown development along the river turns out to be every bit as fantastic as the model indicates. As that becomes closer to reality, I think we'll see another wave of new businesses ready to be there. But at the moment, businesses seem to be content to locate where Wacoans currently traffic and that's not necessarily downtown or by Baylor.
