A few weeks ago, we were asked on Facebook what was going in the new building next to Taco Cabana. We quickly found out that two restaurant and/or retail spaces were available but couldn't get a name.
Now we have one. Papa John's is expanding its Waco operations into this location, according to Kenny Stevens from The Reid Company. Obviously, this will be convenient for some, especially Baylor students who live on campus or in near-campus apartments. But it's also not the most exciting thing ever since we 1) already have this restaurant in town and 2) usually have Papa John's delivered, so as long as we're in delivery range, it probably doesn't matter too much if there's a new one. It's a good thing for Papa John's, though, as they will be able to cover more territory more efficiently.
This is still an intriguing story as the other half of the building is apparently still up for grabs. Stevens didn't indicate whether he was working on a lease for the other half or if he was still looking for a tenant. That means there's still a chance for us to get something exciting in that spot.
Lest I offend Papa John's by stating that their new location isn't all that thrilling, I'll point to Wednesday's blog about the Papa John's Rangers promotion. The fact that Papa John's is giving us half off our order if the Rangers score seven or more runs is awesome.
Valley Mills food court update
A few days ago, a drive past the new building under construction across the parking lot from Aldi revealed Mama Fu's sign advertising the hiring of management positions. On Thursday, that sign was folded up, which makes me wonder if they've hired management or were just trying to keep the sign from blowing away on a windy day.
Expect things to start moving pretty quickly in this shopping center on Valley Mills.
In case you've missed it, Smashburger, Mama Fu's, The Rusty Taco and our fourth Jimmy John's in town are going into this location.
