Today would be a good day to take a walk around Waco's buzzing downtown for two reasons: 1) It's sunny and 70 degrees with a pleasant breeze and 2) there's new stuff to check out.
I personally took a walk downtown just a few minutes ago to drop in on 3 — 3! — new restaurants within a 12-minute walk of each other. (That's according to Google maps. How do they know how fast I walk?). It's definitely an exciting day for downtown Waco, especially because the 3 restaurants fit into 3 distinct categories. Garrett's for fine dining, Jimmy John's for sandwiches and Oso's Oh So Good Yogurt for dessert.
Because I want to give a little more information on each one but because I also, once again, want to go to the golf course, here's a quick glance at each one.
Garrett's, which moved into the space previously occupied by The Green Room, will feature a fine dining menu designed by local chef Billy Garrett. For now, they're open for dinner (and it would probably be a good idea to call for a reservation). But I'm told their hours will expand with time. They're planning to eventually offer 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. lounge hours when they'll serve cocktails and a tapas menu, along with happy hours and a Sunday brunch. If I weren't already attending a dinner party this evening, I would be all for hitting it up for dinner tonight. Nonetheless, I'm pumped that Waco is adding a swanky spot like this.
Oso's Oh So Good Yogurt opened its doors just before noon on Tuesday. I have a feeling this little yogurt shop is going to be a hit. It's make your own yogurt, which is already proving to be very popular around here. Where does the name Oso's come from? Well, I think it's because owner Jan Briles' husband happens to be a football coach of some acclaim. He coaches a team called the Bears. I hear they're on the rise.
Jimmy John's offers sandwiches which you can eat in their cafe on 4th and Franklin or have delivered to your home or business. I've mentioned them previously in this blog. I grabbed a menu and will soon be trying the hunter's club sandwich.
