If you're planning your February calendar or if you just want to have at least one over-the-top spectacular meal as something to look forward to or both, give strong consideration to Cafe Homestead's farm to table dinner on Feb. 11.
Cafe Homestead began its farm-to-table series in August of last year and featured things like a Mediterranean style dinner, a Mexican style dinner, a ribeye dinner and Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. It's a fantastic, multiple-course dining experience that is definitely worth the price of admission.
The farm-to-table dinner on Feb. 11 will feature prime rib. I'll have more information later today on the full menu and price. So check back for an update.
On the subject of Cafe Homestead, we're welcoming them as a sponsoring restaurant beginning today. Pretty soon you'll see their listing appear on our home page and they're currently listed in our catering category. Oh yes, they cater. Cafe Homestead catered a wedding I attended in June. Best wedding cake I've ever tasted.
Out with the old, in with the new
The La Fiesta on N. 19th Street, on the way out to China Spring, is gone.
The sign is still up, but there's also a banner proclaiming that El Conquistador is coming soon.
There was an open door and by now you know, WacoFork family, that I will walk into open doors as often as I can for you. I spoke with a member of the El Conquistador family who told me they're hoping to have the new restaurant open in a couple of weeks and definitely by the end of February.
That will make three El Conquistador locations in town.
Former Bill & Bob's location has new tenant
By the way, I got an email tip (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) from "Elle" about the new El Conquistador, which sent me on my way out there. So, thanks, Elle.
On my reconnaissance mission to N. 19th Street, I also noticed that The Grillin' Station, formerly located at 1114 N. 15th Street, has moved into the former location of Bill & Bob's at 3600 N. 19th Street.
One more bite: Oso's Oh So Good Frozen Yogurt has been closed for winter — and things like the holidays and Heisman trophy presentations and bowl games I assume — but will be opening up again soon. Staley from Oso's emailed me last week to tell me they're opening again on Feb. 7.
