Another Mexican food restaurant has taken over the space recently vacated by Sebas Cocina.
This morning, I stopped in to verify that Mi Tequila had expanded its universe to include the Austin Avenue location. The new joint is called Me Tequila Too and despite the difference in spelling and other dissimilarities, it's the same operation.
First, the differences. Me Tequila Too is currently open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, unlike Mi Tequila on Valley Mills, which serves breakfast lunch and dinner. Me Tequila Too does serve dinner one night a week, from 5 to 10 p.m. on Friday.
Mi Tequila serves beer and margaritas, a popular feature. Me Tequila Too currently does not and I couldn't get verification whether or not Me Tequila Too was seeking a liquor license. It seems like that would be a good idea, considering they have the word tequila in the restaurant's name.
Now, the similarities. Me Tequila Too's menu features many if not all the same dishes as Mi Tequila, including the chorizo grill and the fabulous pig rock (I added the word fabulous; if you've ever had it then you know why). I didn't eat lunch at Me Tequila Too, so I can't compare the quality of food from one to the other. That's up to our WacoFork reviewers. So get after it.
I spoke with a waiter who said Me Tequila Too is drawing some customers from downtown businesses at the lunch hour. When I arrived at the restaurant about a quarter to noon on Tuesday, it was just me and two employees in the dining room. Who knows? Maybe I was early and missed the rush. But the new place is using the same furniture as Sebas Cocina and it's sparsely decorated, so I'm not sure the Mi Tequila folks are all in on this one, perhaps they're just giving it a shot to see what happens.
So new year, new Mexican food restaurant. We'll keep an eye on this one.
