Merry Christmas, friends.
Out and about today on WacoFork business, everyone seemed to have that laid-back, holiday easiness. Most of us have our Christmas shopping and wrapping done and now it's just a matter of coasting out the rest of the year.
Speaking of the rest of the year, I'm looking forward to writing a "Thank you, Lord, for Texas" blog from the Alamo Bowl next week.
In the meantime, here's a (short) list of restaurants that will be open Christmas Day and a briefing on other hot spots' holiday hours.
As far as Christmas day choices, The Grille inside the Waco Hilton still had some reservations available for their 11 a.m. Christmas Day brunch, thought the 1 p.m. sitting was full when I talked to them Wednesday afternoon. The Grille will be closed after the brunches have been served. The Grille will be open on Christmas Eve.
Other than that, there's IHOP, Denny's and the like. If anyone has any updates, don't hesitate to tweet at us (@wacofork) or email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
Ninfa's will be open Christmas Eve, as will its neighbors Diamond Backs and Crickets. But don't be surprised if they close early due to slowness. Ninfa's will be open both New Year's Eve and New Year's Day as will Crickets, though Diamond Backs will be closed New Year's Day.
The Dancing Bear Pub will be closed Saturday through Monday, but will be open both New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
So that's my list to this point. I'm guessing most restaurants holiday opening hours and days are reflected by the few I listed here. I also suspect that many of us will be getting heavy doses of home cooking and leftovers.
But that's OK. We'll all be ready to dine out again in 2012.
