Rumors circulated again on Monday that Fat Ho Burgers was closed.
The rumor reached me as I was sitting at the Elite watching Game 3 of the Rangers-Rays American League Divisional Series. And since I had heard such rumors before only to drive past Fat Ho and find it alive and kicking, I did not leave my perch at the Elite bar. The Rangers were in the midst of hanging on for dear life.
Nonetheless I checked it out this morning and indeed found the Fat Ho doors barred and locked.
Because I'm a crack investigative journalist, I delved into my training and determined that the thing to do was sort of amble down the sidewalk and nonchalantly look around to see if there was anyone in the immediate vicinity that could tell me where Fat Ho had gone.
And, yes, it worked. Sort of.
A voice called out to me. Maybe from the apartment building across the street. Maybe it was the disembodied voice of the Fat Ho herself. Wherever it came from, it said that Fat Ho had moved to New Road and Franklin. I suppose I'm going to have to designate the voice as an anonymous source.
Anyway, I followed the lead. My first suspicion was that Fat Ho would be a good candidate to fill the location vacated by Jack In The Box inside the Shell station at New Road and Franklin.
However, the Shell station clerk said no one had been in the former Jack In The Box since they closed. Maybe Fat Ho is in negotiations to lease this space. More on that story as information becomes available.
Undeterred, I poked around some other possible New Road-and-Franklin-esque locations to see if there was evidence that Fat Ho had been there. The answer: not really.
However, there is a vacancy in the shopping center anchored by Wing Stop. If Fat Ho moved in next door to Wing Stop, it would be two doors down from Family Christian Store.
I, for one, hope this comes to pass.
