Dunkin' Donuts wants to expand to Waco

Yes, I'm jumping from writing about obesity awareness and eating healthy on Monday to writing about donuts today. No, I do not find this to be hypocritical.

It's just the news of the day, sort of.

Dunkin' Donuts put out a press release on Thursday of last week announcing it wants to go into five new markets around the country, one of which is here in Waco.

“We are looking for qualified candidates with foodservice, operations and real estate experience to help grow the brand in these new market clusters,” said John Dawson, Dunkin' Donuts Chief Development Officer.  “By joining our team, franchisees become part of a nationally established brand with over 60 years of experience and 95% brand recognition, receive the benefits of a multi-million dollar advertising fund in addition to world-class training and ongoing support, among many other benefits.”

OK. What does that mean?

It means that Dunkin' is ready to be in Waco and ready for someone to give them money to come here. If you want to, and you have high six figures dollars lying around with nothing to do, you could be the proud owner of a Dunkin' Donuts.

It doesn't mean that Dunkin' Donuts is currently planning a location in Waco, but at least it means they like the idea.

How do you feel about it? Where does Dunkin' Donuts rate on your list of places you would like to see in our town? If it's high, what would Dunkin' bring that you can't already find at Shipley, Daylight Donuts, etc.?

And while we're on the subject of who's coming and who's only rumored to be coming, here's a quick roundup:

Which Wich — Coming to new Valley Mills retail center and Baylor student center.
Mama Fu's — Coming to new Valley Mills retail center.
Quaker Steak & Lube — Confirmed on company's website, coming to Legends Crossing.
Dunkin' Donuts — Wants to come to Waco.
Freebirds World Burrito — Only rumors. Company stated earlier this year that no leases have been signed.
In-N-Out Burger — They're in Dallas and the optimistic among us are reasoning that they'll stop in Waco on the way down to Austin.
Pappadeaux/Pappasito's — Keep dreaming big.
