I began this week on this blog by sort of teasing all of you good WacoFork readers with a new restaurant coming to town, which turned out to be Quaker Steak & Lube.
So I'll lead todays notes with a little more news. Through a bit of reconnaissance today, I learned that the old First Federal building at the intersection of Valley Mills and Lake Air is soon to be a retail center featuring two new restaurants.
Which Wich is the one that more of you might have heard of and dined at in other cities. They claim to be superior sandwiches and offer more than 50 varieties of "customizable sandwiches."
The other restaurant that has already staked a spot in the coming retail center is Mama Fu's, which is Asian cuisine. Mama Fu's claims to be "Made-to-Order, Fresh, Bold and Inspiring."
The new retail center will apparently also include a Palm Beach Tan and perhaps has one opening available.
Speaking of coming soon
Word on the street, and by that I mean word out of a barber shop in Hewitt, is that Jimmy John's is going to open its second location, which will be in the Hewitt retail center anchored by Rosati's.
This makes sense as the long-term plan of Jimmy John's is to open four Waco stores in order to increase its ability to quickly and efficiently deliver sandwiches all over town.

Thanks to Nick Piesco from KCEN-TV and Brian Patterson from the band Dutton for attending the WacoFork meet-up at Taqueria El Crucero. They were each dining there for the first time and they each tackled Oso items — Brian had the Oso burrito and Nick went for Oso good enchiladas.
We met at 11:30 this morning, which I scheduled strategically. But I realize that time might not have been great for a lot of WacoFork friends. Next week we'll meet at noon somewhere and get more of you involved.
Don't worry if you missed this week, we're planning on weekly meet-ups. Keep your ears open for next week's location.

Cafe Homestead presented another of its Farm to Table meals on Thursday night, featuring Mediterranean food.
Somehow I've become a sucker for olive dishes and hummus, so those accents in the Mediterranean menu put it over the top for me. But the finishing touch wasn't bad either — Baklava pie. I haven't always been a big fan of Baklava, but this dessert was pretty freaking amazing as ice cream separated three layers of Baklava.
Again, don't worry if you missed this either. New Cafe Homestead manager Derek Varejcka told me the restaurant is planning on making the Farm to Table dinners a weekly feature.
