Growing up in Waco, I can remember waking up early on Saturday mornings to go to breakfast with my parents. My brothers would never wake up early enough to go with us, but I was never one to pass up a good breakfast. We would hit the usual spots like Harold Waite's or the Red Brick Grill (closed years ago and replaced with a Blue Kettle, which has sense been replaced with a new 7-11 at the corner of Highway 84 and Highway 6), and occasionally we would go to iHop if we didn't just go for donuts. When Cracker Barrel opened out in Lacy Lakeview, we added that one to our lineup as well. In recent years, my wife and I have enjoyed places like Cafe Cappuccino, Leal's and El Ranchito for a good breakfast or breakfast burrito.
Today as I took my 2 youngest kids out for breakfast while my wife is out of town with my oldest, I was reminded that George's serves breakfast. I knew they served breakfast, but when I think of George's I think of chicken fried steak and hamburgers. It's not at the forefront of my mind as a breakfast restaurant. I was going to go to Cafe Cappuccino in Hewitt, but I could tell driving up that they were busy and that we would have to wait to be seated. With a 4-year-old and an 18-month-old, I didn't think waiting would be a good idea, so we set out to find another alternative.
Driving past the Westrock Center in Hewitt it hit me that George's serves breakfast, so I did a quick u-turn and headed to George's. We certainly were not disappointed. I love a good, big breakfast, and George's delivered. I usually go for the standard pancakes, bacon and scrambled eggs. A breakfast place is only as good as their standard fare, and this was hot, fresh and tasty. My son ate all of his bacon and eggs before I could finish cutting up my daugther's food to eat, and he started stealing my bacon and eggs. Luckily I was able to get some bacon and eggs before he ate all of it, and I downed as much of my pancakes as I could. Did I mention that this was a big breakfast?
If you're looking for a good breakfast with big portions at a good price point, keep George's on your list of go-to places. You know it's good when a 4-year-old eats all of his food and starts stealing his dad's.
