In the interest of not burying the lead, I'm going to put this offer right up front and explain it later. The first Baylor student to go to Kitok's for the first time this week, take a picture and Tweet it at us (@wacofork) will receive a $25 gift certificate to the restaurant of his or her choice. Don't rush out the door today as Kitok's is closed on Monday, but it's open Tuesday through Saturday, so rush out the door tomorrow.
Now for some explanation.
Last week I was playing golf in Fort Worth with a group of fellow golfers whom I had just met. The gentleman whom I was riding with in the cart told me his daughter attends Baylor. Of course, we had already discussed that I was from Waco and that I run a restaurant guide website.
When I asked if his daughter liked Baylor and Waco, he said that she did, but she really missed all her favorite restaurants in Fort Worth and didn't think there were many good ones in Waco. He wasn't being rude, just honest. And he had already made a note to himself to tell his daughter about WacoFork.
I've lived in Fort Worth and I have warm places in my heart for many of the restaurants there. But the idea that Waco doesn't have restaurants to find and fall in love with is absurd.
That leads me to Kitok's.
Far too often, I speak with Baylor students who are about to graduate and find they have heard of Kitok's but never dined there. I can understand this as Kitok's is just enough out of the way to remain undiscovered or untapped. And here we find ourselves with the clock running out on yet another semester.
Maybe it's because I've been dining there for darn close to 30 years, but I consider lunch or dinner at Kitok's to be an essential part of the Waco experience. And that's why I'm willing to give $25 to a Baylor student for dining there for the first time.
One more bite: If you're anxious to take this challenge but are curious as to what to order, we officially recommend either the lip locker or the bulgogi. Either way, get oriental fries and please tell them we sent you.
