What started as a way for Jamee Binner and her husband to adhere to their diet plan during the week has grown into a full time business. Binner started “meal prepping” two years ago as a way for her family to eat nutritious meals even on the busiest of days. In March, she and her business partner Brittney Knight formed JB’s Fit Eats. After creating a Facebook page, JB’s Fit Eats saw a quick response of over 375 likes within the first two weeks. The pair quickly went from preparing 30 meals a week to 100+.
With customers heralding those meals as “absolutely phenomenal’ and “convenient and delicious”, the girls knew they were on to a concept that had huge potential. After briefly halting business to expand and reorganize, Jamee and Brittney are once again meeting Waco’s need for nutritious, balanced meals.
Of the company’s recent success, Binner said, “It’s such an honor to be able to provide nutritious meals to my fellow Wacoans. It’s a great time to be in business here in my hometown. From the overwhelming response we have received so far, I believe in our company’s ability to become Waco’s foremost resource for healthy meals for the busy, fit-minded person.”
The freshly-cooked meals consist of a lean protein source, fresh vegetables and a complex carbohydrate. Meal examples include garlic herb grilled chicken breast with brown rice, and seasoned green beans to the highly popular zucchini lasagna, made with their signature marinara sauce and zucchini slices replacing traditional lasagna noodles. Each meal is $8 (delivery charge excluded), a price point below the $10-$12 the average consumer spends on lunch.
Future plans for JB’s Fit Eats are multi-tiered. The two women plan to grow their business by doing the following:
- expanding their kitchen and packaging areas
- developing different meal size options tailored to specific customers' dietary needs
- enlarging their delivery zone
- offering a shipping option
