There's a new food truck open downtown as The Boudain Shack rolled into business on Monday.
The Boudain Shack formerly occupied a freestanding restaurant in Robinson and we ventured out there for a couple of blogs in the past two years. Now they're so much closer to my house, which is a big fist pump for me.
They set up shop in the parking lot in front of the Texas Life building at 9th and Washington. A heads up, coming from Austin Ave., you'll need to turn on 8th Street toward Washington, then loop around making a left on Washington and a left on 9th. But then you can't miss their red truck.
Oh, and they're closed on Wednesdays, so don't read this and run out to try it tomorrow. I tell you what, let's meet there for lunch on Thursday. I'll post a reminder tomorrow afternoon and Thursday morning on social media.
I spoke with Allison Trayler and Angela Everett of the Boudain Shack team this afternoon to get as much scoop as possible. They've limited their menu from their freestanding restaurant when they went to the truck. They offer a couple of specials: the Cajun Special (boudain link, cup of gumbo, cup of etouffee and a drink) and the Shack Special (chicken breast, dirty rice, side salad and drink) both for $9.99. They also offer about half a dozen a-la-carte items, including crawfish etouffee, gumbo and dirty rice by the cup or bowl.
They'll be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily at 9th and Washington for now. And we'll keep you appraised if they decide to pop up somewhere else.
