I first became aware of the Pokey O's ice cream truck a couple of weeks ago when they showed up at Art on Elm and word got back to me.
On Monday evening, I was headed into Dichotomy when I saw the truck outside. Once inside, while I was settling in at the bar, a couple of people sat down near me with fresh ice cream sandwiches, which allowed me to get a closer look at the Pokey O's offering.
Here's the thing, I love those Nestle Toll House ice cream sandwiches, but I never eat them because I would like to be less fat than I am. And for the past few months, I've been really conscious of the number of calories I consume. That's more info than you wanted, I realized, but my point is that Pokey O's is going to create a massive and constant temptation for me. I saw how good those ice cream sandwiches looked in person and I know it's going to be something I crave in the very near future.
It's not Pokey O's fault, obviously. Applause to them for bringing a great concept to town. I just have to figure out a way to make it work in my life. Perhaps if I have an ice cream sandwich in lieu of dinner. I wonder if I practice mind over matter and psychologically convince myself that instead of cookies and ice cream it's actually, I don't know ... what's healthy? Carrots and spinach. If I tell myself it's as healthy as carrots and spinach, then maybe my body will follow accordingly. It's basically the same principle I'm applying in dating strategy.
Anyway, I resisted on Monday and now I'm out of town for my other gig. I asked the people whom I saw enjoying ice cream sandwiches on Monday if it was a deal where you built your own sandwich by picking the type of cookie and flavor of ice cream and they confirmed that as the process. From the Pokey O's website, it looks like the types of cookies and ice cream vary from day to day.
Dang it, now I really want one.
