Here at The Fork we hear a lot of rumors. We love rumors and food and especially rumors about new food coming to town. Normally we don’t like to get hopes up until ground is broken, but rumors from the past few months are too good to keep to ourselves. Feast your imagination on this tasty gossip:
WHOLE FOODS
A construction company has signed a deal with Whole Foods to build by Hillcrest Hospital. Our source says, “It’s going to be a slow process.” They have to build the frame, have it inspected by the City of Waco, then bid out the next phase. I will personally go swing a hammer to make this happen faster.
INDIAN FOOD ON AUSTIN AVE
Can we just take a collective moment and say a prayer to the food gods that this rumor comes true? It’s about time. Details are sketchy, but there have been financial dealings of some sort on the storefront next to Dichotomy. Keep your fingers and legs crossed Indian-style.
IN-N-OUT BURGER
This would not be totally surprising, since the chain has locations in both Dallas and Austin, which usually means Waco is next on the list. Keep your eyes peeled as you drive by the old Richard Car Motors location on Valley Mills. If you see someone with a giant arrow you’ll know tasty fresh-made burgers are in your future.
LE MADELINE – OR SIMILAR
Several new restaurants are set to go in at the Legends Crossing development out near Hillcrest Hospital. (Whole Foods, pretty please!) The development will surround a small walking park. The original Le Madeline plans fell through, but developers hope to secure the French-inspired food chain or something similar. Anyone want to join my petition for Zoes Kitchen?
SALTGRASS… OR WAS IT SALT LICK?
We can’t remember exactly what a source told us, but think it was Saltgrass. Either smoked beef or grilled beef set to come to the new Legends Crossing development. Yee-haw!
RUMOR CONFIRMED: A second Heitmiller Steakhouse location is going in old Quaker Steak & Lube location. I’m not saying Quaker S&L was completely awful, it was just really horrible. Three cheers for local businesses!
