Sometimes you get lucky. Sometimes you wander into what you think is a new-ish establishment with the intent of writing an article that you think is probably a week or so later than you needed to do it and, instead, it happens to be the first day that establishment is open.
That happened today at Marco's Pizza, which opened on Monday in the Woodway shopping center that also includes Leal's in the space formerly occupied by Gerik's. Not only that, I learned a few things from the knowledgeable and friendly staff.
I learned that Marco's is a pizza chain based out of Toledo, Ohio, which has opened more than 100 stores around the country this year. I learned that it offers pizza for dine-in, take-out and delivery. It's delivery area includes Harris Creek neighborhoods and generally anything within a five-mile radius. It doesn't deliver to the Baylor area though franchise owner Robert Mock intends to open another location that will serve the downtown and Baylor neighborhoods.
Mock told me he was a partner in the Domino's chain in town, but decided to go a new direction. As such, Marco's differentiates itself by offering a dine-in option with a comfortable seating area. I can't speak to the taste of the pizza yet. Feel free to beat me to it by writing a review.
Food trucks headed for Elm?
I've grown skeptical about the potential for the proliferation of food trucks in our town. It seems to me as soon as a good food truck idea springs up, it's shut down just as quickly. That stated, an article in the Waco Tribune-Herald by Regina Dennis that I read today is promising. Dennis reports that Carla Dotson is putting in the planning for a food truck lot on Elm. Check it out here.
