As a general rule the rest of this fall, weekends when the Baylor Bears football team plays in town will be much more active around here than when Baylor is off like this weekend or when the Bears play away games.
For example, a week from now West Virginia comes to town as Baylor kicks off Big 12 play. Two weeks after that, the Iowa State Cyclones show up for Homecoming and three weeks after that, the Oklahoma Sooners come in for a Thursday night game.
Does that mean it's a good weekend to get out of town? Certainly not a bad idea. But there are still activities in good old Wacotown.
Tonight Little Chief and Luke Gibson play at Common Grounds beginning at 8:30. Over at True Love, the lineup of The Couch, Cleanup and We The Sea Lions will probably start around 11, so it will be possible to catch both shows if you're really jonesing for live music.
On Saturday, the Dancing Bear will host Oktoberfest from 4-7 p.m. From there, you can mosey on over to Common Grounds for the Texas 4000 for Cancer benefit show featuring Chiefly Palomino along with Remington Stallard, Art Wellborn, Trannie Stevens, Meredith Wilson and Braden Guess.
Later Saturday night, Dreamboat, Tapenga and Valley Mountain hit the True Love stage, again probably about 11.
And finally, True Love hosts comedy night on Sunday night starting at 10:30. Does Waco have a big enough comedy-night audience to show up at 10:30 on Sunday night for this deal? Maybe I'll check it out and let you know next week.
