A new bar, featuring multiple entertainment venues, opens this week on Lake Air Drive.
Brian Brown from Sloppy Joe and Red C Production's Russell Clay and Chris Cox have partnered to open Cinema next door to Captain Billy Whizzbang's, and coming at you on Friday.
I dropped in there this afternoon expecting to find yet another new thing coming to town at some undetermined time in the future. What I found instead was a fantastically decorated space which is ready to roll this week. Brown said they will have a soft-ish opening on Friday and Saturday, then hold a grand opening the next weekend.
The bar promises more than just a place to sit and drink. One end of the bar features a stage and dance floor while across the room a mini-theater is set up for movie screening. Brown said they plan to have nights when a band is playing on stage while a movie runs (sans sound) on the screen. There will also be full-volume screenings of movies and television shows along with the usual sports fodder.
Cinema will have a full-service bar and a food option as they're teaming up with Captain Billy's.
I think this place is going to raise the bar for mid-town Waco nightlife establishments. Brown said they're hoping to encourage swankier attire (no flip-flops, tank tops, etc.) and target grad-school age and a little older (Read: not a lot of just-turned-21, binge drinkers nor crusty old farts looking to kill time before heading to Two Minnie's).
