I have three items to report from my weekend rounds with three different levels of information.
First, my buddy Toph Whisnant told me he dined at the new Mexican food restaurant, Cancun, which is located on Waco Drive in the building formerly occupied by Adriana and Janette's. Cancun opened in the last week or so. Whisnant said the decor in the restaurant is impressive but the menu might still be finding its way.
Cancun is the Waco debut of a concept Gaspar Ramirez introduced in McGregor under the same name. The Waco Drive location is closed on Monday.
Next up, I've been hearing about the dessert truck on Franklin for a few days. I let this one slip by me, maybe because I've cut out desserts for the last 10 days, and the Waco Tribune-Herald beat me to it. Check out today's Trib story on The Vanilla Bean Bake Shoppe.
Finally, something on Austin Avenue called R Bar appears to be close to opening. Information on this joint seems to be scarce, though. I heard Jim Lafayette, who had Legacy Cafe, was trying a new concept at the location. And I heard it was maybe going to be a Cajun place. Most telling, though, is that no one has anything nailed down. Obviously, I'm still efforting info here. A peek in the window revelealed a variety of beer bottles on the bar. We'll stay on top of this.
