After opening its first Waco store in the Westview Village Shopping Center in November, WiseGuys is now looking to expand its turf.
Co-owner and operator Bill Nychay emailed us to tell us the Chicago-style sandwich joint is looking around downtown to open a second store. WiseGuys clearly wants to get closer to the Baylor crowd and maybe in on the new-stadium hype.
One possibility is the building going up at 7th and Cleveland. We reported last week that Papa John's has signed a lease for one half of that building. Nychay specifically mentioned the remaining spot there, but he emphasized that WiseGuys is considering several locations.
Given the combination of tasty sandwiches and to-go style service with the option of dining in, a downtown WiseGuys might be pretty popular in the vicinity of Baylor.
WiseGuys originated in Killeen, where its sandwiches and burgers have wooed many fans in that area. Nychay and Baylor regent Ramiro Pena brought WiseGuys to Waco last year.
They don't serve pizza, which throws folks off at first given the mobster theme and the words Chicago-style.
