Waco restaurants serving #PrayForWest cause

I just stopped off at Vitek's to check on their fundraiser for West and found they still have plenty of T-shirts available. They're $10 and say "#PrayForWest" and they're also available at George's and George's in Hewitt.

That's an easy way to give a little help to our neighbors.

It's a good example of the paradoxical nature of life that when something horrific happens, like the explosion last Wednesday in West, it causes something great to happen, like the way so many Waco folks have found ways to help our neighbors.

To that end, there continue to be ways to get involved. The Olive Branch is hosting a spaghetti dinner from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday to help out one of their Spice Village friends who suffered huge losses in the explosion. The spaghetti dinner is free with a donation.

Our good friends at Jesus Said Love have jumped in to help another family that lost everything in the West explosion. Their goal is to raise $25,000 to help Brittany's family rebuild. Click here to read the latest update on Brittany and her family and then click here to donate.

Also, we want to salute the Waco restaurants who have helped the cause up to this point. Poppa Rollo's raised more than $17,000 with a benefit evening on Monday. Vitek's quickly sold out of an initial batch of T-shirts before ordering the current batch. I spoke with Julie Keith from Vitek's today and she told me of about a half dozen ways the local barbecue legend is helping people in West. And Freebirds generously fed 200 volunteers last week

Our West friends are going to continue to need our help, so let's keep it up.
