Common Grounds hosting 3rd annual Stache Dash

I just finished reading all the rules for the Stache Dash bike race that Common Grounds is hosting April 27.

It's kind of complicated, but that's what makes it so cool. It's called an alley cat race and your knowledge of the streets (and alleys) of Waco will give you as much of an advantage as your bicycle-riding ability. And if you've ever been a bicycle courier in Waco, then you probably have an unfair advantage.

First a couple of big details. The race is being held to benefit Project Rwanda, which builds wooden cart bicycles to help cooperative coffee farmers transport their beans to a fair market. Registration for the race begins at 5 p.m. on April 27 at Common Grounds. Racers will need to bring $5 and photo identification.

Now, for the tricky part that makes this great. Racers will be given a race manifest which can only be opened when the race officials yell "Go!" At that point, racers will try to reach as many locations listed in the manifest as possible in 45 minutes. At each location, racers are instructed to take their photo and text it to the race facilitator.

Race winners will be determined on a points system. Prizes from sponsors Fast Folks in Austin and Common Grounds will be at stake.

The race is open to all cycling skill and Waco map knowledge levels.

One more bite: Also coming up at Common Grounds will be the Justin Townes Earle show on Sunday night. Local favorite O, Loveland will be opening. Tickets are $18 in advance by clicking here or $20 at the door.
