We didn't really know what to expect when this tournament began.
We felt like we had a chance, but we've only seen the opponent on paper. We had no idea what they might bring to the table and how strong their fan support might be. But we got into that first game and realized we had a chance in this thing, at least in the opening round.
And before we knew it, we had survived and advanced to the second round and were playing a big name. After some nervous early moments, we began to pull ahead in that game too and now, suddenly, we are staring the Sweet 16 in the face.
I'm speaking of course of our Vitek's Gut Pak's journey on the road to the Final Four of the Cooking Channel Best College Eats. In case you're just catching up on this, the Cooking Channel has pitted 32 dishes specifically connected to college communities against each other in an NCAA Tournament-style bracket. In the first round, the Baylor Vitek's Gut Pak smoked N.C. State's Mimi's Sausage Dip from The Player's Retreat, 3,556 votes to 1,736.
Now the Gut Pak is linked in a battle with Duke and The Greek Devil's Gyro. With a day left in the voting, the Gut Pak leads the Devil's Gyro by 1,600 votes or so, or 60 percent to 30 percent of the votes.
It looks like, if our Gut Pak makes it to the Elite 8, it will face Illinois' Papa Del's Stuffed Pizza. Here's some bad news, the Papa Del's pizza has more than 6,700 votes in its second-round matchup. That's about 2,100 more than the Gut Pak has right now.
So it's time for us to up our game. Tell your friends and let's make this happen. Let's get the Gut Pak to the Final Four. Click here to vote. We will update this often on Twitter.
