I have some difficult news for you, Styrofoam cups. Please step into my office and take a seat.
Common Grounds is moving in a different direction. Your services will no longer be required. As painful as this must be to hear, you have become outdated and you obviously don't have the ability to blend in to the environment.
Paper cups are the way of the future.
As of this week, Common Grounds is making a long-awaited move to paper cups. I spoke with new CG owner Blake Batson about this a while back. As simple a change as it seems to be, it's one that has been a priority for Common Grounds management. An establishment as in tune with environmental issues as CG was having a hard time living with itself serving drinks in Styrofoam.
"One of the core values we have as a company is a deep commitment to our community," Batson said. "We believe that value can not, at this time, continue to flourish alongside the use of Styrofoam cups. They are diametrically opposed."
The new Common Grounds cups are completely compostable.
One more bite: The cup pictured with this blog includes the new Common Grounds logo, which is pretty cool too. Don't go in expecting to get such a sleek looking cup, though. The baristas and I dressed up this cup for photo purposes. ... Also I thought, while I was photographing the cup "Ok, let's see what you look like topless (it had a lid in some of the pictures)." I included this because I thought it was funny but there was no one around to tell the joke.
