I know that every time I write about the Cafe Homestead special dinners in this space, I make it read as if it's going to be the meal to end all meals. I promise I'm not inflating my opinion for promotional purposes.
It's just that every time I see the menu, my reaction ranges from "Mmmm, that sounds promising" to "Oh my gosh, I have to eat that." So I honestly hope that I'm not desensitizing the audience here when I rave about this month's Cafe Homestead special evening meal.
I need to quit qualifying and tell you about two items that have my full attention. This month's dinner will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday the 23rd and the menu will include barbecue stuffed jalapeños and a grilled ribeye.
Oh, man. I'll be candid here and tell you that I'm slated to be in Austin that weekend for the NCAA Tournament. But those two things — barbecue stuffed jalapeños and grilled ribeye — make me wonder if I can make it back to Waco on Saturday night and then go back to Austin on Sunday.
To elaborate, the barbecue-stuffed jalapeños will be giant jalapeño peppers stuffed with spiced cream cheese and a grilled chicken tender wrapped with turkey bacon then roasted and topped with smoky orange barbecue sauce
The grilled ribeye, well, that pretty much describes it. It will be topped with herbed Gorgonzola butter. I've had the ribeye at one of these events before and give it the highest marks a person could give a cut of steak.
The cost of the dinner is $45 per plate. That's an outstanding value. For the full menu and for reservation information, click here.
