When Jimmy John's came to Waco a little less than two years ago, the word on the street was that the sandwich chain wanted to open four stores in town within four years.
It appears they're well ahead of schedule.
Jimmy John's already has three Waco locations — downtown, Hewitt and Bellmead — and we heard over the weekend that they're planning to go into the new Valley Mills Drive shopping center anchored by Aldi. We confirmed it today with the downtown store manager. Jimmy John's has signed a contract and will be moving into that locale.
It might be mid-summer before the Jimmy John's store is open, but that will make four stores in a little more than two years.
The idea behind dotting the town map with stores is that residents have the choice of either stopping in or having sandwiches delivered. They keep the delivery areas small so that can maintian a reputation for quick delivery.
I'm personally enthusiastic about the Valley Mills location as it should put my house within range of a Jimmy John's delivery area. Finally.
