The Egg and I ready to hatch

I stopped by the Egg and I on Wednesday and it appears they're ready to begin serving breakfast, brunch and lunch. It's a good thing because their opening day is Monday. The Egg and I hours will be 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Honestly, when I first learned this place would be coming soon, I was a little underwhelmed, perhaps because it came in the middle of a big batch of new restaurant news. But I've since heard good buzz about it from people who have dined at The Egg and I in Austin and/or Tyler.

As a big fan of eggs Benedict, I'm looking forward to giving it a try.

On Sunday, The Egg and I will hold a run through for its staff. The restaurant owners have been handing out invitations for the event. Franchise co-owner Mike Beheler told me this week they hope to serve about 400 customers between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The invitation is for a complimentary breakfast, though it asks for a voluntary donation that will directly benefit McLennan County Pack of Hope, an organization that combats child hunger in the county. It also asks invitation holders to make a reservation, so it requires a little advance Sunday-lunch planning.
