Lunch at Cafe Homestead is always a good idea. This is true for anyone in town or anyone visiting our town, but it's especially true for me as a restaurant blogger.
Because Cafe Homestead consistently offers new and enticing events and specials, like the Caribbean Farm to Table dinner coming up Sept. 1. Manager Derek Varejcka told me today that they're still looking to fill seats for the event, which will have 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. seatings. For more information and to make reservations, click here.
And also because I learned about two specials at Cafe Homestead — the current one which I enjoyed for lunch and the upcoming one.
First for the special that's slated to run beginning Thursday. Varejcka told me about the Cuban burger and it sounded fantastic. To prepare the Cuban burger, the Cafe Homestead kitchen will grill a beef patty, which will be laced with cheese and onions, then press it with a panini pan and a brick, melting the insides, and finally serve it on an extra-large bun. The Cuban burger will be on special for a week, so make a time to go try one.
Now let me tell you about my lunch today as I chose the current special — a Mediterranean plate. As photographed, it included marinated and grilled chicken kabobs, hummus, tabouleh salad and labneh with artisan pita bread for dipping. I first encountered this meal at last August's Farm to Table dinner and loved it. I needed a light and healthy lunch today and I feel like this fit perfectly.
WacoFork marketing intern Ryan Row lunched with me today. It was his first time at Cafe Homestead, but on the way back into town he was already planning his next meal there.
That tends to happen with Cafe Homestead.
Adendum: As of Wednesday, Cafe Homestead decided to wait and put the Cuban burger on special beginning Thursday, August 30. And I received a more detailed description of the burger, which will be a grass-fed beef patty topped with a sliver of roasted turkey ham, a grilled onion medallion, provolone and American cheese, homemade sweet fire pickles, and a honey serrano sauce in between a toasted artisan oven whole wheat bun.
